LB1106

Provide for school-based health centers under the Medical Assistance Act. (Sen. Nordquist priority bill)

Description:

LB1106 will allow health services provided in a school-based setting to be covered under Kids Connection.

LB1106 seeks to cover school-based health centers under Nebraska’s managed care contract. The bill defines school-based health centers and the services such centers can provide. The bill also defines and limits what facilities can sponsor school-based health centers. Additionally, LB1106 directs the Department of Health and Human Services to submit a state plan amendment to Nebraska’s Medicaid plan to cover eligible legal permanent residents under Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Currently, legal permanent residents receive benefits that are financed completely out of state general funds. CHIP offers a significant matching federal funds to help finance these services. The bill contains an emergency clause.

Sen. Nordquist priority bill.

In favor: Voices of Children in Nebraska.

Voices for Children statement: We believe this bill will expand access to health care for children in schools where health services are available. It may also reduce barriers for schools to begin providing health services in the future.
