Related to violence/criminal activity (Priority Bill of Sen. Ashford of Omaha Dist. #20)

Description:

LB63 now includes provisions of LB35 to create a state Office of Violence Prevention for the purpose of implementing programs to reduce violence and LB64 which relates to dating violence.  LB63 relates to violent crimes and gang activities to help address, as stated by Omaha Sen. Ashford (Dist. #20), an “epidemic of violent crime.”  LB63 also (not all inclusive) would allow prosecutors and judges to consider a juvenile offender’s gang affiliation when determining whether they should be prosecuted as adults or juveniles and prohibit domestic violence offenders and subjects of protection orders from possessing firearms.
