LB633

Create the Neighborhood Development Act.

Description:

Create the Neighborhood Development Act to provide for grants to neighborhood associations and smaller communities to assist with significant community improvement projects that focus on enhancing the quality of life in the area.  A grant recipient would need to provide a match in either dollars or in-kind value equivalent to: 25% for a grant of up to $5,000; 26% to 49% for a grant of more than $5,000 but $7,500 or less; or 50% or more for a grant of more than $7,500 but $10,000 or less.  No grant could exceed $10,000.  Sponsor Sen. Mello proposed and the body adopted an amendment to reduce the Legislature's appropriation from $500,000 to $125,000, to sunset the Act on June 30, 2013, and to provide that not more than 50% of funds could go to neighborhood associations and not more than 50% to small Communities.  CARRYOVER TO THE 2010 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
