Description:

Change provisions relating to family reunification and termination of parental rights.  Provisions provide: (1) add additional exceptions for not reunifying the family and for termination of parental rights due to parental convictions of felony assaults; (2) provide that the court shall not be required to reunify the family if a parent of a juvenile who has been convicted of felony sexual assault of the other parent or a comparable crime in another state; (3) provide that the court may terminate all parental rights if one parent has been convicted of felony sexual assault of the other parent or a comparable crime in another state; (4) provide that reunification efforts would not be required in cases where the parent of the juvenile being removed from the home has subjected the juvenile or another minor child to aggravated circumstances, including, but not limited to, abandonment, torture, chronic   abuse, or sexual abuse; (5) grounds for termination of parental rights exist when the parent of the juvenile has subjected the juvenile or another minor child to aggravated circumstances, including, but not limited to, abandonment, torture, chronic abuse, or sexual abuse.  The Legislature passed the bill, 49-0.
