Immigrant and Refugee Services

Response to LB465

LB465, a bill passed by the 2011 Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Dave Heineman, takes away certain public assistance benefits from immigrants who have been in the United States for less than five years. This bill takes effect on July 1, 2011. It is expected to affect 2,000 immigrants statewide.

To help immigrants cope with the sudden loss of benefits, the Center for People in Need has formed a coalition of human service agencies in Lancaster County to help people find the help they need.

Below are fliers explaining the changes.
