PROH AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is a federal initiative providing an opportunity for dedicated individuals to make a big difference in their lives and their community by applying their skills and ideals toward meeting critical needs. In Nebraska, AmeriCorps is nurtured and managed by ServeNebraska.

The Center for People in Need operates PROH AmeriCorps. PROH – pronounced pro - is an acronym for Providing Resources Opportunity & Hope.

Twelve PROH AmeriCorps members serve at the Center for People in Need in program areas including:

  • Job Training
  • Computer Lab
  • GED/ESL Classes
  • Pathways Out of Poverty
  • Truckloads of Help
  • Health Hub
  • Special Events
  • Citizenship

Additionally, one PROH AmeriCorps members serves with Voices of Hope in Lincoln, an agency focusing on crisis intervention, advocacy and prevention services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and incest.

The 2011-2012 AmeriCorps year began September 1, 2011.

PROH AmeriCorps members come from a variety of ethnic and language backgrounds, which is vital in our mission to help low-income people, including refugees and immigrants. Some of the ethnic backgrounds include Caucasian, Middle Eastern and African. Languages AmeriCorps members speak include English, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish, Burmese, Nuer and Dinka.
