Faces Of Poverty

Agency Surveys

This is the fifth year the Center for People in Need has surveyed its clients and presented its findings in the Face of Poverty in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The surveys were translated into three languages and completed by 2,410 families during the 2010 Toyland for Kids gift distribution at the Center for People in Need. Topics included education and employment, transportation, food and utilities, child care, and health.

What makes the Face of Poverty report unique is that it continues to serve as the voice of low-income people in Lincoln and Lancaster County. The report shows what daily life in Lincoln is like without the material resources most of us take for granted. Low-income families and individuals face a constant daily struggle: to put food on the table, to have a place to call home, to see a doctor or dentist, to get an education and to get and keep a job.

The results were compiled and analyzed under the supervision of Maria Rosario de Guzman, UNL Extension Specialist in Adolescent Development and Assistant Professor of Child, Youth, and Family Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The results are available in a print publication, “Faces of Poverty Today in Lincoln, Nebraska.”
